Intestellar Train - Galatic background

Spent the last day or so working on the background which will be seen through the glass of the station. The galaxies in the background was created using various different photos painted and blended together. The planet and moons in the foreground were done in 3d, using 5 spheres and various textures and shaders to get the right look. I think it turned out great and almost stands on its own so I had to post it.

Intestellar Train - Train station and background

Been working hard on getting the space station together. Started with several sketches of the station and then started modeling it. Eventually decided that I didn't entirely like the model so I altered it slightly and made the entire thing in a cylinder. I think that makes it a much better image overall because it gives it some extra dynamics plus gives the impression of gravity in the station.
Still working on the color balance of the whole thing. Trying to get that perfect balance isn't easy esspecially since the planet in the background is a major focal point.

Intestellar Train - Train Cars modeling Final

Train model completed along with 2 different types of train cars. I did a basic cargo and a passenger car. Cars were fairly easy. most of the pieces were just cloned from the original and then I just did a new top piece and some new pipes. Next stage will be to concept and model the space port station were these will be docked.

Intestellar Train - Train Engine modeling Final

Front engine completed. All that is left is to do the paneling for the bottom, but I will decide on how I want that to appear as I progress on to completing the train cars. I am going to do 2 different style of train cars. A passenger and a cargo car. Both should be fairly easy to build since I already have most of the pieces made. I just need to clone them off the engine car and then fill in the holes. Also need to decide how I want the materials to look. I am thinking that I may make this a military transport, so will likely do greens and grays for the colors.

Been working on the main body piece. Took me some time to get the lines of the panels just right. Got quite a bit more paneling to do and then to add in more details. Still trying to figure out what exactly I am going to do for the under carriage of the train.

Was stumped for awhile trying to figure out how I wanted the main body to be shaped. After doing some sketching I think I found what I am looking for. Got to clean up the Body mesh a bit more and then start modeling in the details.

Got most of the engine piece done, missing a few handles, plus some nuts and bolts. I will put those pieces in as I complete more of the main body on the train.

Interstellar Train - External parts modeling

Well working away on this train. Started over on the base mesh and decided that I can't make the deadline for the competition since I started way to late into it. So I am making a model that hopefully is comparable in detail and skill level as the vehicles on 3pointstudios.com. So far I have gotten most of the exterior engine pieces done. Will move into detailing the body once I finish the engine completely.

Interstellar Train - Start

 

Well its been a while since I have posted. This is mainly due to the fact that I have been working on many weapon designs for a new MMO game. As per the contract I can't post any pics of the work so far until the game is release which should be sometime this fall.

I have however started work on a new competition piece for CGtalk.com. The Accelerate competition. The competition is a challenge to create an image in the style of the great Syd Mead. For those that don't know Syd is one of the world's leading futuristic vehicle designers for movies and games. Some of his more well known credits include Blade Runner, Tron, Short Circuit, Aliens, Time Cop, Johnny Mnemonic, and most recently, and Mission Impossible-3.
The judges panel for this competition is an all-star cast of people in the TV and film business which includes Syd Mead himself, The Myth Busters (Jamie and Adam) as well as some other famous studio directors.

I am a little behind on my entry so far since the contest ends June 30, which gives me 2 weeks to complete my entry. I hope its enough time.
My idea for the competition is an interstellar train and station. It will be a mix of hand painted pieces combined with some 3d elements.
The first 3d element will be the train followed by the Space/train station. Its just a model for the moment and I will soon add textures to it.
